Introduction

The College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Guizhou University was formerly the Department of Architecture of the former Guizhou University of Technology (established in 1993). The College currently has 46 specialized faculty members, including three professors and 12 associate professors. Among them, four hold doctoral degrees and 28 hold master's degrees. The College is built upon the professional expertise and teaching experience of the current faculty. It plays an influential role in the field of architecture and urban-rural planning in Guizhou Province. Over 10 specialized professors have been certified as national first-class architects and planners.

In recent years, the College has become a contributing factor in boosting local economic growth and development; it has undertaken eight research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, including more than 10 industrial research & social development projects and Natural Science Foundation projects in Guizhou. It has also completed more than one hundred design and consulting projects. Several teachers have been honored as experts of provincial/municipal services.

The College now offers two undergraduate programs: Urban and Rural Planning and Architecture. The employment rate of graduates has reached more than 98% in the past 20 years. Since its establishment about 30 years ago, the College has trained a considerable number of graduates. Among them, some have become the backbones of the industry of architecture and urban planning in Guizhou Province, exerting a considerable influence in southwestern China. Some graduates have pursued further study in various well-known universities in China or abroad. The College has worked to elevate students’ professional capacity. With architectural design and urban-rural planning as its core and engineering and design science as the basis, the College has been seeking to adopt an integrated education pattern featuring production, learning, and research. Accordingly, it has included basic knowledge relevant to urban architecture science in arts, science, engineering, management, and laws while investing great efforts in giving students an interdisciplinary foundation in architectural design and urban-rural planning.

Through the College’s program, students develop a thorough understanding of the knowledge of design together with the theories of architecture and urban-rural planning. They will also become well-informed of some leading theories in architecture and urban-rural planning as well as relevant knowledge of architecture, urban-rural planning, landscape, and interior design, including research methods and new techniques in agricultural planning. The College, focusing on upgrading students' capability in practical application and comprehensive research activities, hopes to create more advanced engineering professionals and technicians in architectural design, urban-rural planning, landscape design, and interior design. Undoubtedly, the program prepares graduates for a variety of career options. Upon the completion of the program, graduates can work in the areas of architectural design, urban-rural planning, landscape design, interior design, development project planning, scientific research, teaching and urban construction, planning, and management.

Special requirements for program application: Candidates must have some fundamental drawing/painting skills, good spatial imagination, strong hands-on ability, and expressive ability. They must harbor a strong sense of love for literature and art.
