Introduction

The College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Guizhou University was built from the Department of Chemical Engineering of Guizhou Institute of Technology (established in 1958) and the Department of Chemistry of Guizhou University. Presently the College is made up of Department of Chemistry, Department of Chemical Engineering, and Teaching Center of College Chemistry and Experimental Chemistry. The College has 116 faculty members, among whom, 106 are full-time teachers. This includes 27 professors and 33 associate professors. 32 teachers hold doctoral degrees, 46 hold master's degrees, and six are Ph.D. candidates. One teacher has been honored as National Outstanding Young Expert, one teacher has been recruited as Expert of New Century Talents Project (known as Hundred, Thousand, Ten-thousand Talents Project), three teachers have received special allowance from the State Council, and eight teachers have received provincial allowances or awards due to their outstanding contributions. Currently, there are 1,462 undergraduates (616 in science, 846 in engineering) and 283 master and doctoral candidates.

The College offers one Ph.D. Program in the first-level discipline of Chemistry, and one Ph.D. Program in the secondary-level discipline of Material Chemical Engineering; two M.S. programs in the first-level disciplines of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Technology. It also has one provincial key-special discipline in Chemical Engineering and Technology, two provincial key disciplines in Chemistry and Chemical Technology, and eight undergraduate programs: Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Material Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Energy Chemical Engineering, Process Equipment and Control Engineering, and Inorganic Non-metal Material Engineering. Of them, Chemical Engineering and Technology was listed in National Excellence Engineer Education and Training Plan in 2013 and passed the Engineering Accreditation of the Ministry of Education in May 2017. The College has three provincial key laboratories for Great High Performance Computing Chemistry, Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry, and Green Chemical and Clean Energy Technology, and one provincial-level center, Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Chemistry and Chemical Industry. Two centers have obtained certificates from measurement attestation, namely, Testing Center for Chemical Engineering and Environmental Researches and Research Center for Occupational Health Technical Services.

In the past five years, its teachers have undertaken more than 800 research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, the National High-Tech Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), and provincial research funds and enterprises, with a total funding of more than 60 million yuan. Over 800 research papers have been published in academic journals both at home and abroad, 200 included by SCI, EI, and ISTP. The College has applied for more than 200 national invention patents, with 156 approved. It has won six provincial scientific research awards, including two second prizes and four third prizes. Some research results have been applied in practice and have achieved good social and economic benefits. Multi-disciplinary integration has been promoted with a combination of basic and applied researches for high quality education. The College has become an important base for high-level personnel training and scientific research in Guizhou Province.
