Microelectronics and Solid State Electronics

Circuits and Systems

A first-level discipline master's degree program in Information and Communication Engineering, including two secondary discipline

programs in:

Communication and Information Systems

Signals and Information Processing

Two professional master's programs

Electronic and Communication Engineering

Integrated Circuit Engineering

The College has a national-level special program (Electronic Science and Technology), an Engineering Technology Research Center designated by the Ministry of Education (Semiconductor Power Device Reliability Engineering Research Center), a provincial key discipline (Microelectronics and Solid State Electronics), a provincial key laboratory (Key Laboratory of Micro-Nano Electronics and Software Technology), two key laboratories approved by Guizhou Provincial Department of Education (Guizhou Key Laboratory of Electronic Functional Composites, Guizhou Key Laboratory of System Optimization and Scientific Computing), a Guizhou Provincial Electronic Science and Communication Technology Talent Base, and a Guizhou Provincial Signaling Big Data Engineering Research Center.

Currently, College of Big Data and Information Engineering has 83 faculty members, including 12 administrative staff and 68 teachers. Among the teaching staff, there are 12 professors, 28 associate professors, one senior lab technician, 28 lecturers and 9 lab technicians. 34 teachers hold doctoral degrees and 38 teachers hold master's degrees. The College has six doctoral supervisors and 27 master's supervisors.

The Department of Electronic Science has a long history and is at the forefront of certain fields such as teaching mode, education, and teaching reform research. Two programs have built upon the honored tradition of electronic study and semiconductor study by the physics program of the former Guizhou University (1961,1962). At present, the Department of Electronic Science has a strong research team supported by the talents from national and provincial key laboratories, as well as doctoral supervisors. In the past five years, the College received eight projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, four key projects for international cooperation from the Ministry of Science and Technology, five projects from the Ministry of Education, and more than 110 projects from the Guizhou provincial government. The College has published more than 410 papers, over ten academic books and textbooks, and applied for 56 national invention patents (31 were approved). Additionally, the College has won two second prizes and five third prizes in Guizhou Province’s Scientific and Technological Progress Award, together with one first prize and one second prize in the Guizhou Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award.

The predecessor of the Department of Information and Communication Engineering was the undergraduate program in Communications Engineering founded in 1999. In 2003, the Department was approved for a master's degree in Communication and Information Systems. In 2005, it was approved for a master's degree in Signal and Information Systems. In 2010, it was approved for the first-level discipline master's degree in Information and Communication Engineering. In the past three years, it was granted 4 national-level scientific research projects, 17 provincial-level scientific research projects, 19 prefectural-level research projects, 8 science and technology service projects, and nearly 8 million  research funds.

The Department of Big Data Science and Engineering was established in May 2014. The Data Science and Big Data Technology programs focus on big data analysis, while the Internet of Things Engineering Program focuses on big data collection and analysis of the Internet of Things. The teaching method is the “Three Plus One Mode.” The mission is to train middle and high-end talents for the big data industry not only in Guizhou, but throughout China. The College combines practical and academic experiences of the big data industry to establish an education system, which integrates production, education and research, and provides intellectual support and talent guarantees for the development of big data industry. The goal is to help Guizhou to achieve leap-forward development in the information industry.

The Big Data and Information Engineering College of Guizhou University is a college with comprehensive studies, well-structured teaching staff, outstanding research capability and excellent teaching quality. The research reputation of the College is well established at home and abroad, which helps cement its unique position in Guizhou Province. Nowadays, graduates of the College have become important research and technical professionals in universities, the electronic information industry and IT industry not only in Guizhou, but also throughout the nation. Many of our graduates have become professional talents and leaders in the fields of industry, transportation, energy, telecommunications, finance, TV and radio, media, education, and research all over the country. Their contributions to the economic development of Guizhou Province and the modernization of China are commendable.

As chairman Mao wrote in his great poem, 'Although we have conquered an impregnable pass, and trudged a long way, it is only one beginning step.” Under this new structure, the College of Big Data and Information Engineering will face contemporary opportunities and challenges. With the support of the Guizhou Provincial People's Government, leadership of the university, and hard work of the College’s teachers and students, we will continue to promote reform and innovation, foster good teaching and research environment, enhance the creativity of teachers and students, improve teaching quality and academic level, and make greater contributions to local economy of Guizhou Province.
